Rocktober – Day 7 – Alabama Shakes

Ever since I was a child listening to rock radio playing incredibly hard songs by incredibly hard bands my parents wouldn’t let me listen to (such as Poison and White Snake), I’ve hated the term “Rocktober.” However, since it’s October and rock music is no longer popular and/or relevant, I’ve decided I’m going to give you ten songs per day by a new(ish) band you might not have heard of

The Alabama Shakes hail from (wait for it… wait for it…) northern Alabama. I discovered for them completely by accident. I was searching for the Afghan Whigs and searched for “Alabama Whigs” instead (I’d heard of Alabama Shakes… just hadn’t actually heard them). A quick Google search sent me to the Alabama Shakes instead. I was pleasantly surprised with what I heard. If you like rock with a country flair (Band of Horses, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters & Men, etc), check these guys out. And, actually, if you like the Afghan Whigs, you probably would enjoy the Alabama Shakes as well.
