Perham 61, Crookston 46

The Yellowjackets met the Crookston Pirates on Saturday night at the Prairie Wind Middle School in Perham to make up the game cancelled by Thursday’s winter weather. The varsity squad jumped out to a big 34-17 lead at halftime. The Pirates played tough in the second half, but the Jackets managed to hold on for a 61-46 victory. The balanced scoring attack was led by Nick Bahls who had 14 points. Eli Beachy (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals) and Tyler Glines (8 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks) both filled the stat sheet with a terrific effort. Hunter Salathe (13 points, 4 rebounds) and Sam Muer (11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals). The win brings the Jackets to 4-0 with a tough week ahead (Tuesday at Crosby-Ironton and Friday against #7AA Pelican Rapids)

The JV also defeated Crookston 61-39. They were led with three scorers in double digits – Chris Kenntemich and Christian Weis with 13 points along with Jaden Anderson (11). Andy Hanson had 9 points in the second half. Nearly every player scored for the JV squad as they move to 3-1 on the year.

The C-Team faced a tough Crookston squad and was defeated 50-43. After being down 11 points with 7 minutes to go, they made a big run to cut the lead to 1 in the last two minutes of the game. They couldn’t get a bucket and were handed their third loss of the season. They are currently 3-3 on the year.

Earlier in the day, the 9th grade traveled to Fergus Falls for the 43rd annual Freshman basketball tournament. In the first game, the Jackets got off to a slow start offensively against Morris leading 18-10. The defense picked up in the second half and they cruised to a 36-17 victory to advance to the championship game against Fergus Falls. The Jackets scoring was quite balanced – Reid Moser led with 9, followed by Noah Christenson (8). Aaron Solberg and Dart Montella each chipped in 7.

The second game was a tail of two halves. After falling behind early, the Jackets battled back to within 3 at halftime. A few stops and easy baskets by the Otters to start the 2nd half broke the game open and the Jackets lost 58-41. Reid Moser once again led in scoring with 18 pts followed by Noah Christenson with 13. Reid Moser and Dart Montella were named to the all-tournament team.
