I’m excited to give you guys a preview of some of the music that’s featured in “For Three.” As has been well documented on this blog, one of the most difficult things for me to do was to musicians generous enough to donate a song or two. Luckily, I did have 18 good souls who let me use a song. I’m in no way legally obligated to promote them (aka – that’s not “part of the deal”). They were good to me, though, and in turn, I want to be good to them and hope that if you find something that you’re interested in, you check them out and buy a song, album, t-shirt, or whatever. All of them have quite an online presence, so at the very least, you can shoot them a tweet or Facebook message saying you think it was really cool that they are part of “For Three.”
Big Chocolate is someone I discovered because of an “unofficial” rock remix that he did. I don’t know if you are like me at all, but when I find something that I really like, I tend to dive in and learn all I can. For example, when I was in high school, I heard about this movie called “Casino.” One of my friends told me I had to see it to see a scene where a guy gets his hand smashed. As I was watching it, I saw the name “Martin Scorsese” in the credits. I’d heard the name before, but I had no idea who he actually was. After the movie was done, I turned on my computer, waited fifteen minutes, opened my dialup internet connection, went to probably either WebCrawler or AltaVista and typed in Martin Scorsese. I found a bunch of movies that he’d done (some of which I’d heard of, but none that I’d ever seen). Long story short, I abused my employee discount at Video Volume over the next few weeks checking out Goodfellas, Mean Streets, King of Comedy, Raging Bull… I think you get the point.
That is kind of how I consume things that I like, though. I just need to find one movie or one book or one song that I really like and I try to find as much as I can by the writer, musician, actor, or director.
So, when I came across Big Chocolate for the first time, I was pretty excited. Big Chocolate (who’s real name is Cameron) posts a video blog on YouTube ((Check out his CamEveryDay channel here) every single day. They’re always quite entertaining. I don’t watch everyday, but I do come back
His latest cd – which is the first I’ve checked out – HiLion is phenomenal. I’m talking when 2011 is done, it will easily be one of my 10 favorite albums of the year. If you want to see him live, he’s playing the Vans Warped Tour all summer long so check for a date near you. Tell him “the guy who sent him a message on YouTube to use a song in a documentary says hi.”
In all seriousness, I really like his music and I can’t thank him enough for letting me use it! So please, do me a favor and check out a preview of his HiLion EP and if you like it, open up the credit card and pay the fine folks at Amazon, iTunes, or wherever and help support the cause (the cause, of course, being good music!)This entry was posted in Blog by brent and comments are closed.
