This is a band I found a few years ago. When I first started watching “Friday Night Lights,” one of the things that blew me away is how awesome the music was. It’s not the kind of cd that you’ll put in your car and listen to one track. It’s more of that cinematic sounding music that you could listen to at your desk at work or on the stereo in the house and just get stuff done. That band (Explosions in the Sky) is obviously a different band than this, but they opened my eyes to a new genre of music.
Arms and Sleepers is a similar band. I would describe it as the most awesome background music ever. And when I say background music, don’t think elevator music. Think “soundtrack to my life.” If you could have one ear bud in and listen to this music as you go through life, I guarantee everything would feel a little more full.
Their label – Fake Chapter Records – describes them as the hardest work band in music. I can’t disagree. They currently are just wrapping up a tour of Asia (I’m talking Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, China, Hong Hong, Vietnam) and are heading to Canada next week. When I contact the record label to see if it would be possible to use one of their songs, they said they thought it would be okay but it might take a while to get back to the band since they were currently touring Asia. Two days later, I got a “yes” meaning that the somene in New Jersey must’ve sent an email to someone who’s currently in Asia to find out if someone in Minnesota could use a song. Pretty cool how “flat” the world truly is, isn’t it?
If you listen to them and like them, do them a favor and Check out this page which has a list of local radio stations you can request to play Arms and Sleepers. If there is a radio station in your area, use two of those precious anytime minutes and help them out.
